The Lord howe island brewery

We brew beer here on the island, testing rare and endemic ingredients found nowhere else. So come down and enjoy a Lord Howe Island Lager or Pale Ale in our beer garden surrounded by glass houses of growing veggies. We make wood-fired pizzas and hold weekly tours, too. Everyone is welcome down at the brewery!

WE ADVENTURE

Lord Howe Island is rich with diversity and supports over 150 species of endemic flora. We were recently granted permission to adventure into the Permanent Park Preserve to find unique ingredients and then send them for testing.

WE forage

Once we have found our target species, we send them off to the lab team at Southern Cross University with advice from Imperial College and Kew Gardens London to figure out how we can use these distinctive species to make beer as unique as our island home. .

WE brew

Chuck Hahn used his 50 years of brewing experience to design a system that would enable one brewer to keep up with the demands of the island. It’s a system that was able to fit on the Island Trader and could be assembled remotely with the assistance of specialists.

We also designed a series of 20 litre test kits to experiment on our foraged finds as well as work on experimental brews to keep the islanders (and ourselves) guessing.
